The York Rite

I found this video on York Rite Masonry, the branch of Freemasonry that I am involved with. I found the video excellent in giving a glimpse at the various degrees and orders of York Rite Masonry.

The York Rite is divided into three bodies after "Blue Lodge."

Blue Lodge is Freemasonry proper and confers the degrees of Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason.

The York Rite picks up where Master Mason left off, and consists of the three Masonic bodies of Chapter, Council, and Commandery.

A Chapter of Royal Arch Masons confer the following degrees: Mark Master Mason, (Virtual) Past Master, Most Excellent Master, and Royal Arch Mason.

A Council of Royal & Select Masters confer the following degrees: Royal Master, Select Master, & Super Excellent Master.

Finally, a Commandery of Knights Templar confers the following orders: Knight of the Red Cross, Knight of Malta, and Knights Templar.

I am proud to have gone through the York Rite.

I just don't get it. I never have. I probably never will understand anything about the Masons. I mean, builders? What's that got to do with God or a religious order?

Eh? :tilts head sideways:

But, maybe I'm not meant to get it.

God in Masonry is the "Great Architect of the Universe." Masonry uses building symbology as metaphor for virtuous teaching. This is not uncommon since some Christian traditions use herding as metaphor (shepherd, lamb, etc...). Symbol is a powerful tool in religious teaching.
